  • Take years off aging skin and start glowing today.
  • Reduce pigmentation and the effects of time and sun exposure.
  • Reveal a healthier more youthful skin.

What are chemical peels and what do they treat?

Peels exfoliate the outer skin layers to varying depths.
Reduces uneven skin pigmentation, melasma, rough and sun damaged skin, acne scarring and fine lines. Results are a brighter, smoother, and more even skin tone.
Improves clarity, color, and skin texture.

How does it work?

Peels range in types and strengths; alpha hydroxy - light peel, beta hydroxy and Jessners - medium peel, TCA (trichloroaetic acid) medium to deep medical grade peel.
The chemical solution applied to the skin will loosen the dead and damaged top layer of skin cells that will later peel away. Left behind will be new brighter, smoother, healthier looking skin.
Preparation of your skin prior to a peel can allow for deeper penetration and more optimal results. Use of prescribed Retin-A will start the loosening process of the dead skin cells which lets the peel work more efficiently and allow the skin to heal and regenerate more quickly.

Consultation with Dr. Kirsten will determine the appropriate peel and pre-peel skin care for your needs.

What to expect during treatment?

Before a peel a test spot is required.

Your face is cleansed prior to application of the peel.
The chemical solution will stay on your face for 1 to 10 minutes depending on solution strength and desired effect. The solution is then neutralized if using a hydroxy peel (Jessners and TCA are self-neutralizing). Your face will be cleansed again, and product applied to nourish and protect.

How much downtime?

Minimal down time depending on the strength and type of the peel.
Degree of peeling ranges from light flaking to a more noticeable peel.
Lunch time peels are gentle, fast, and effective, with no downtime.

What areas can be treated?

Peels can be done on face, neck, hands, chest and back.

How many treatments are required?

Single or series of treatments.
Results are cumulative and maximum benefits are seen with a series of 3 or more.
Depending on the strength, peels may be repeated every month or every 3 to 6 months.
Results of a peel, also strength dependent, will last 6 months to a year. Improvement
will persist with proper skin care regime and regular maintenance peels.

A consultation with Dr. Andre Kirsten will determine how Chemical Peels can help with your concerns.
